Love/Hate Relationship with Amoxicillin

A little update on the sick kid situation at our house...

Kate is currently rash-free, fever-free, and ear infection-free. Let's cross our fingers and hope that it stays that way.

Brett is on day #4 of the fever. It started on Sunday around lunch-time. By Monday morning he was acting miserable. Of course, an almost-3-year-old still can't quite verbalize what actually hurts, which means that we play 20 questions. Finally, I figured out that he might have a sore throat. I had to work that day at 8:30, which meant that Todd was on pediatrician duty. So much for a productive day at work for him! Turns out, he has strep throat. I honestly can't remember ever having strep, although my mom tells me that I did. My sister still gets strep all the time, and says that it's extremely painful. Well, the NP that they saw decided to treat it with low-dose amoxicillin. You can scroll further down and read my rant about how much I detest amoxicillin because it treats almost nothing in our kids. Guess what? He's had 5 doses of antibiotic and he STILL has a fever (it spiked up to 105.2 on Tuesday morning) and he STILL has a sore throat to the point the he won't eat hardly anything.

Needless to say, I'm putting a call into the nurse line to beg for a stronger antibiotic. Joy.

The best part, he's now missed this whole week of school. (He only goes Monday/Wednesday). Next week is spring break, but yet we still get to pay for a whole month's tuition. Quoting my neighbor, "This has been the sick season from h*ll in the Lopez household!"
