The things kids say...

So today, on our way from the mall to the airplane park, Brett was rambling his usual way about how we're on the big road, and he sees a yellow car, and a police car, and that truck, etc. I needed to call my mom and tell her something, so I did. I was chatting away and, apparently, Brett was really excited about seeing a car "just like mommy's" and he kept saying it over and over and over again, and I wasn't acknowledging it fast enough. All of a sudden he yelled out, "Mommy, stop talking! THAT car is JUST like your car!" Sure enough, it was. As soon as I acknowledged that yes, that car was just like my car, it was over. Funny little kid!

No tears!

It's only taken 6 months of preschool, but we finally had a week of no tears at drop off - barely even a whimper! Ah, relief! Of course, this is on Brett's part. Kate now gets angry (read: massive, angry screaming with big, crocodile tears) when I have to drag her out of the classroom. She wants to stay and play!

We did get great news the other day - both kids are officially enrolled in the Monday/Wednesday 2 year-old and 3 year-old classes, respectively, for next year. Hallelujah!

Quick funny story for the day...

Brett has a new girl in his class, Emma. She's the cutest little thing you've ever seen (aside from Kate, of course). Emma's mom stopped me this morning and said that Brett is all Emma talks about when she gets home from school every day. Haha! Funny thing, when I asked Brett who he played with today, his immediate response: "I played with Emma on the slides, and Ollie was cold again today." His speech has improved sooo much in the last 6 months - it's unbelievable! And to think that I was actually worried about his lack of speech a year ago. It just cracked me up today. Apparently, he loves playing with Emma at school, and he got very concerned that Oliver was cold on the playground. Such a sweetheart!

Alright, exhaustion hit about an hour ago... off to bed, unless I can find a way to get the kids to sleep in tomorrow! Doubtful!

KiSSSSSSSSSS

A little glimpse of the bedtime routine every night - they almost always give each other a hug and a kiss before going upstairs to brush teeth and read stories. So sweet!

Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's day! Ok, so it's more than a week late, but we have good excuses, I promise! Let's just leave it at lots of colds, decently high fevers, and 75% of the family on different antibiotics all at the same time. It's been fun! NOT!

Anyway, here's a little collage of pictures from Valentine's day festivities. Todd and I facilitated a Marriage Orientation workshop at church in the morning, and then celebrated Valentine's day with the kiddos in the afternoon. Kate was VERY enthusiastic about putting her shorts on OVER her sweatpants, and wearing them around the house that way. Brett really liked his "touchdown" shirt (it says "touchdown on it) and "touchdown" shorts as he calls them. They also got new books from us - Kate got "Llama Llama Red Pajama" and Brett got "Smash Crash" because I was tired of checking it out of the library! He was very excited to show his new book to Poppy. While they were napping, another package came from Grandma & Grandpa - new shake and go cars! We already had Lightening McQueen, but now we have Ramone, and a new pink one, named PJ. We have no idea where the name came frome, other than the fact that they also got new PJs from Grandma & Grandpa. Go figure - Brett named him all by himself. Memere and Poppy rounded it all off with lots of stickers and a brand new Mr. & Mrs. Potato head set that they got to open earlier in the week. Can you say spoiled?!

I was still pretty sick that weekend, so we didn't do anything big to celebrate Valentine's Day ourselves. Instead, we waited a week and went up to Washington DC this weekend to watch Marquette beat up on Georgetown. It was a great game with great friends, and, most importantly, NO KIDS! Woo hoo! Brett & Kate hung out with Memere and Poppy for the weekend. The kids had a great time - it's all Brett has talked about since we picked them up. They were both exhausted by 7pm tonight - they must've played hard all weekend long!

The tradition continues - our annual trip to the auto show. Needless to say, the kids had a great time! Brett got to check out the Maserati, a Porsche, and many other nice, expensive cars. For extra kicks, they also had a fire truck that the kids could climb in and explore!

Somebody "wuffs" you!

These were the Valentine's for Brett's class - they were actually a fun little craft to make while watching tv at night. Just ask Todd - he watched me cut out ALL of those hearts! Haha! Unfortunately, Brett was sick the day of his party at school! At least he has Valentines to look forward to when he goes back on Wednesday.

Family time

Who says tools are only for boys?!

See my expert drilling!

Brett likes to saw things in half

Wait... he has to stop to take Daddy's nose first!

Time to do laundry

And then REACH to the top shelf of the fridge (that's where the milk is at our house)

Sweet girl loves her snowman PJs

She's making dinner for Daddy - he wants a taste

Brett, get out of my kitchen! Look at that face - HA!

A happy boy!

And a goofy boy :)

Arts and crafts

I've been in the middle of finishing up my 2007 scrapbook, making baby cards, and re-organizing my "office" - and this little guy decided that a nap was NOT in his routine that day! Thanks to some punches and some old paper that I don't really like, he used his new-found glue skills and made a Brett masterpiece. What a happy little man!

Note - that was NOT a typo - I really did say 2007

Playing dress up

I found these two dresses for Kate at a GREAT deal the other day and I just couldn't pass them up. One is for Erin's wedding (the first one) and the other is for Easter (hence the jacket) in case it's chilly! She REALLY liked the first one - she kept twirling around in it. Very cute!
