Pandamania!

I can't believe I almost forgot to post about our fun week at VBS at our church the last week of July.  The way my work schedule fell this year, I was only scheduled to work one day during that week, so I decided to take that day off work and volunteer to teach one of the classes that week.  I good friend of ours, Tiffany, said that she was interested in teaching as well (she is actually a teacher), so there it was - we decided to teach together.  We both have Kindergarten boys, so we requested to teach Kindergarten.  Then, as it turns out, we got pre-K instead.  A little disappointed, we went along with it and decided to make the best of it.  Well, as many of you know, there is a big difference between pre-K (some kids have never been to preschool) and Kindergarten.  We had two kids that I could've easily done without for the week - 3 kids if you count my own child.  Life lesson #741 - it is much harder to teach your own child than other people's children.  OMG.  It was a long week, but a fun week, and a good learning experience.  I do want to teach again in the future if my work schedule allows it, but I do not see myself teaching pre-K again, ever.  EVER.  I love volunteering at the preschool, but I have a whole new level of respect for our fabulous preschool teachers.  I've always loved all of them, but yes - I do think they have the hardest job on the planet!

Anyway, fast forward to Friday night - the VBS closing ceremony.  Basically, each grade level gets to go up on the altar, sing their song with the sign language that they learned that week, and that's it.  Pre-K processes in together, sings their song (read: pout and/or run around the altar like maniacs), then sits with their parents.  Yes, that was my sweet little child in the cute little braids pouting her way through the song.  If she had actually participated in music that week, maybe she would've learned the words and sign language.  Geesh.  Did I mention that it's extremely difficult to teach your own child?  Ok, just making sure.

The Pout-Pout Kate

The Kindergartners were adorable!  Brett LOVES singing all of the songs he learned at VBS!

"Hello!  Hi, Jesus!"

Teen helpers (white shirts) and teachers (green shirts) singing our song at the end.  I'm up there, in the middle, slightly toward the right.

Still singing - he loves it!

Our VBS kids loved their teen helpers!  Tackle Miss Katie!
